We are learning about time and tempature. I would like to leanr more about how to convert farenheight to celcius.
Today I've learned about how to look at a timetable and plan out a day.

W.A.L.T. We are learning about different time zones around the world and how to calculate time differences.Time zones are caculated from GMT(Greenwich Main Time). Everywhere in the world is infront or behind Greenwich. E.g infront New Zealand, Behind America. Time zones are also to do with the sun. When the sun is not facing the country it is obviously night. When the sun is out its morning.
A good explanation of the theory we discussed. You then needed to give an example of how far behind NZ a country is etc.

W.A.L.T : We are learning about exhange rates for currency. Exchange rates tell you how much of your currency u get from another currency. E.g $800 NZD = $5,202,965.15 IDR. $800 NZD = $1,101.02 TOP.
To make your examples clear you needed to give the actual exchange rate, then show how you multiply this.

W.A.L.T: Use algebraic thinking to solve decimal subtraction problems. I think that it is a really good way of working out subtraction problems that have decimals. E.g 4.3-1.75 add 0.25 onto both numbers; 4.55-2=2.55, which is much easier than the origanal problem!.

WALT. Use temperature as a strategy to help us add and subtract intergurs. I thoguht it was pretty good to use as a strategy and I would use it in the future. E.g The car is tempature is +7. Then we turned on the aircom and it took away - 8 degrees. So it is 8 degrees less cold. So its +15.

WALT: Use a number of different problem solving stratagies to solve complex problems. Today I learnt 1 new strategy called drawing a diagram or graph. E.g All the rows and colums in this square have to add up to 18 with these numbers.. Draw a square with the correct number of rows and colums and write in the square where the numbers go.
Good explanation of this Jason. It is important that you are confident with at least 4-5 strategies that you can apply to different kinds of problems.

WALT: Draw a histogram. Decide which kind of data a histogram shows. Histograms are a simple way to show continuous data. Histograms are easy to explain and learn. Histograms can be used for continuous data. e.g length of hair, height of students.
Can you tell me the difference between a column graph and a histogram. A column graph shows discrete data and the bars have spaces inbetween them. A histogram shows continuous data and there is no spaces inbetween them.

WALT:Read and use a box and whisker graph. I think box and whisker graphs are an okay way of showing information but i dont think is the easiest graph to learn. But can show data pretty clearly.Box and whisker graphs can be used to show information like test results. There is a median, lower quartile , higher quartile and the outliers.
It is a great graph if you need to show those quartiles Jason. So yes it is one that is often used to show test results.

WALT: Create and use a survey/questionaire. Surveys/Questionaires are an easy way to collect data. The difference is with a survey you physically walk up to people and ask them your question. Questionaires is where u hand it out to people and tehy answer multiple questions and hand it back to to at a given time. I'm doing a survey beacuse my statistical investigation doesnt have that many questions and then u don't have to rely on people handing them back.

WALT: Use prior knowledge to solve problems in Olympiad test. I think i did terrible in my olympiad test, I made lots of stupid mistakes like thinking there is 100 seconds in a minute in question 4. I hope I can get a better mark next time and aim to get 4+ and I want to get into the mathletics team.
A great goal to have Jason. Don't be too hard on yourself - yes it is frustrating when we make silly errors but it is what you take from this and how you focus on it next time.

Today My gorup went to Mrs. Eddy and I tested my mobile teaching steps on Mitch. I think i need to make my steps more clear and maybe tweak it a little bit.
Keep it as simple as possible because what you are looking at is anyone being able to use your mobile to teach themselves.

Today I did the IKAN test and I thought I did pretty good but at the end of the test I messed up one answer and then missed the last 2 questions overall thought I did pretty good.

Over the last couple of days we haave been doing decimal and percentage work with Mr. Cheer. One of the sheet I did we had to divide a number with remainders then put it into fractions and decimalS found it helped with my general decimal knowledge as well as improving my fraction knowledge.
